Fast-tracked design-build project overcomes several challenges.
DonahueFavret worked with Baton Rouge General with the goal of completing a 60-day buildout for a new Infusion Center within its existing facility. Our team broke ground in early October 2021, and started the buildout process in early November 2021, building out 12,000 SF within the existing medical office building to produce a new infusion floor for Baton Rouge General’s new partner, Mary Bird Perkins. The program consists of infusion bays, nursing stations, support rooms, and an infusion pharmacy. DFC partnered with WHLC Architecture to develop conceptual design drawings and structural systems for the building, with less than one month to produce construction documents. This design-build project was met with several challenges given its fast-tracked schedule. The infusion equipment required a high level of expertise and long-lead times were required for specific equipment such as chemo hoods. Simultaneously, our team had to navigate the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus, causing a 30 percent reduction of labor. The construction process was divided into two different sections: the infusion side where patients received treatment, and the infusion pharmacy where equipment needed to be installed in a timely manner. Reusing existing windows, doors, hardware, and bathroom accessories played a key role in not only completing the project on time in less than two months, but also in reducing overall costs.
