Emergency department expanded through challenging phased construction, increased ER visits.
DonahueFavret Contractors was hired for preconstruction and construction services to perform an expansion to the Emergency Department at Lakeview Regional Medical Center. The expansion included enclosing the existing canopy, adding additional trauma/exam rooms, adding a nursing station and other support spaces, adding a new ambulance drop-off as well as a new covered public entrance into the emergency room. The hospital brought DFC on board early on to assist with architect selection as well as design build services for the MEP scope as well as Architectural. The project also consisted of a renovation of the behavioral health portion of the ED including three Psych rooms, which consisted of all anti-ligature components as well as special caulking and wall finishes. There was also a decontamination shower that’s was built to accommodate Psych patients. Coordination and phasing was the most challenging component of the renovation. Not only did the hospital continue to stay occupied throughout the entire project, the number of ER visits increased more than 15% during construction. An extreme level of coordination and cooperation with the medical staff was required every day to ensure the hospital was always able to continue operations. Maintaining cleanliness throughout construction was also paramount due to the sensitive nature of our surroundings, including but not limited to daily Infectious Control Risk Assessments. DonahueFavret Contractors was able to complete this project within budget and ahead of schedule.
