Design-assist delivery revives this historic community asset.
The St. Stephen Church project was performed for the Archdiocese of New Orleans and The Good Shepherd Parish and included the restoration of an historic church built in 1887. The project was negotiated following an interview process with the church, the Archdiocese, and influential parishioners. Immediately upon award, DonahueFavret was involved in an extensive design-assist delivery.
Work scope for the restoration included a full tuckpoint of approximately 300,000 bricks, installation of new slate and shingle roofs, copper elements, restoration of existing sandstone and terracotta, and installation of a new handicap ramp on the exterior; Complete sounding and restoration of 25,000 square feet of plaster walls, total repaint including new gold leaf, recreation of ornate historic moldings, installation of period-matching millwork, and installation of custom LED lighting created to match the existing architectural church finishes. The existing church infrastructure was upgraded with new behind-the-scenes electrical service, new HVAC units, a state-of-the-art dimming system and all new plumbing and fixtures.

Their team communicates well and engages in necessary trouble-shooting to address the unique conditions in the building. The difficult challenges of a restoration with unforeseen existing conditions were met and the project was delivered to the owner on time and within budget.
