Medical build-out brings much-needed outpatient surgical department.
DonahueFavret Contractors was hired to construct an outpatient surgical department inside shell space in the existing Utility Building at UMC. Originally intended for retail space, the build-out included 5 operating rooms, 2 procedure rooms, 12 pre/post patient care cubicles, 8 Phase I recovery bays and support spaces. The exterior includes a new drive and canopy for patient drop-off and parking.
The project posed significant challenges for power transfers because all the generators for the main hospital were contained in this utility building. Transfers required extra care and expediency than typical. Another challenge involved the amount of med gas that was run in a relatively small space with very little time.
